Got this in the mail today...
Um, why? Are they trying to make the ECM more untune-able? As it is you have to bench flash the ECM to get a tune loaded...
Should I do it or not? Kansas does not have any emissions testing AT ALL (or vehicle inspections)
Also, should I save up over the summer and get an exhaust and DPF/EGR delete and a Malone Stage 2 tune for my Sportwagen? 175WHP and 290WTQ sounds very tempting

Do you have a tune? If not, just do it and tune later. They are only saying that they won't return your vehicle to stock in order to do the recall.

Sounds like they just updated it to get rid of a phantom CEL from the letter.

Well the big thing now is that because of companies like Samsung and Apple, car makers are starting to look at their ECM programs as proprietary property.
So the idea is that just like jail breaking your phone voids the warranty, they are trying the same crap with car computers. They want you to stay inside the "walled garden" as Apple calls it.
It will only get worse.

Nope, no tune (yet)
So I should?

Hm, well i know they made it so you can't tune the ECU through the OBDII port... >:/
Wasn't sure what they meant by this letter

Soon, everything will be like Elysium...
Okay, I'll save up my money during the summer and get the tune and exhaust (total of around $1200 with me doing the installation)

No real downsides, they're just remapping the ECU. If you go to sell the car, the buyer will probably like to see it was done.

I don't plan on ever selling this car... its my first car so lots of memories
might as well do it anyways

Were you ever able to OBD flash a 10-14 TDI?
The letter basically says: "there's something that can cause a CEL in normal operating conditions, we're flashing a new map that prevents that".
A tune will probably overwrite whatever they're doing anyway so I'd guess it's not a big deal. I'd check what they're saying on a TDI specific forum first though.

Well, I popped a phantom O2 CEL during the winter. Going uphill in 5* weather with a full car. Had to take the car in and have it looked at.
I'd say go for it. No downside.
